2008-09 Season Outlook
- Head coach Jeff Vizenor enters his 8th year as the Mavericks head coach.
- Vizenor will record his 300th career game as a head coach when the Mavericks play at Minnesota Duluth Saturday, October 25.
- Assistant coach Mandy Krause-Rideout is entering her seventh year at MSU (Four as a player and third as a coach).
- Assistant coach Paul Willett enters his first year as a Maverick assistant.
- The Mavericks are 101-211-27 in 10 seasons and 54-157-21 in nine seasons in the WCHA.
- Last season the Mavericks recorded their fourth season with a winning record at home after going 7-6-1.
- MSU won its 50th WCHA game in a 4-1 win Feb. 1 at St. Cloud and its 100th all-time victory Feb. 9 in a 5-2 win at home against Bemidji State.
- The Mavericks welcome nine incoming freshman to the squad.
- MSU has five players from overseas (Three for Sweden and two from Finland).
- For the third consecutive season, the Mavericks travel to Ohio State for their final road series of the regular season.
- MSU is returning three WCHA Scholar-Athlete Award winners and six All-WCHA Academic Team members.
- 2008-09 captains are senior forward Maggie Fisher and junior forward Kala Buganski.
- Fisher is the lone senior on the team this year.
- Fisher will begin her senior campaign as the school's all-time points (81), goals (44) and game-winning goals (10) leader.
- On the career charts, Fisher ranks third in assists (37, record is 47), fourth in shots (317, record is 402) and tied for fifth in power play goals (10, record is 17).
- Junior forward Christina Lee sits tied for third in career power player goals with 11.
- Lee has racked-up 24-19--43 during her career at MSU, second most among returning players. She is five points from cracking MSU's career top 10 points list.
- In a 5-2 home victory Feb. 9 against Bemidji State, Lee scored the first hat trick by a Maverick since Melanie Salatino scored four times against North Dakota Oct. 17, 2003.
- Buganski takes an even plus/minus rating into the 2008-09 season after competing in 66 games in her career.
- Junior defenseman Holly Snyder had 2-10--12 last season, leading the Maverick blue-liners.
- Junior forward Ashley Young tallied 2-7--9 in 16 games played last season and six of her eight career goals have been on the power play.
- Sophomore forward Nina Tikkinen returns to the Mavericks after leading the freshman class last year in points with 5-6--11.
- Tikkinen will turn 22 when the Mavericks travel to St. Cloud Friday, February 6th. Sophomore forward Ashley Bliskowski will be 20 when MSU begins the first round of the WCHA playoffs Friday, February 27th.
