#17 St. Cloud State Skates to 3-3 Tie Against Canisius

St. Cloud State jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead at 3:40 of the first period.

St. Cloud, Minn. -- The #17 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (1-0-1, 0-0-0 WCHA) skated to a 3-3 overtime tie against Canisius College (0-1-1, 0-0-0 AHC) on Saturday, Oct. 13, at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.

Playing before a homecoming crowd of 6,037 Husky faithful, St. Cloud State jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead at 3:40 of the first period with a blazing slapshot goal by sophomore defender Craig Gaudet (Redvers, Sask.). He was assisted on the play by junior forward John Swanson (St. Cloud) and sophomore forward Andreas Nodl (Vienna, Austria).

The Huskies padded their lead to 2-0 with a power play marker by senior forward Nate (Maplewood) at 6:09 of the first period. Sophomore forward Ryan Lasch (Lake Forest, Calif.) and senior defender Aaron Brocklehurst (Nanaimo, B.C.) added assists on the play.

To complete the SCSU attack, freshman forward Tony Mosey (Prior Lake) continued his impressive debut weekend with his second goal of the season at 4:08 of the second period. Gaudet and Lasch each had assists on the play.

Canisius got back into the game at 10:13 of the second with a goal by Chris Forsman, as Josh Heidinger and Derek Danowski each had assists. In the third period, CC kept battling back with a goal at 3:21 by David Kasch. David Cianfrini tied the game at 4:03 of the third period to make it 3-3.

In the game, SCSU outshot the Griffins 46-13. Bryce Luker was the goalie of record with 43 saves for CC. Sophomore B.J. O'Brien (Lakeville) made his first collegiate start for the Huskies and posted 10 saves in the contest. On the power play, SCSU was 1-of-11 and CC was 0-of-5.

The Huskies will open the WCHA season next weekend with a pair of games at Minnesota Duluth.
