Defenseman Ashley Lynch named captain of UND Women's Hockey Team

Juniors Fletcher, Hanson, Motsko Named Assistant Captains

Oct. 5, 2007

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - University of North Dakota head women's hockey coach Brian Idalski announced today that sophomore defenseman Ashley Lynch has been named team captain for the 2007-08 season. Idalski also announced that junior defenseman Kelsey Fletcher and junior forwards Casie Hanson and Randi Motsko have been named assistant captains.

Lynch, a native of Gilbert Plains, Manitoba, was named to the All-Western Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie Team last season after scoring three goals and three assists in 34 games, making her just the second player in program history to earn a WCHA postseason award.

Lynch is the fifth captain in team history, joining Jessica Kovacevich (2005-06), Marissa Hangsleben (2004-05) and Sherrie White (2002-04). UND employed rotating team captains last season.

Fletcher, a native of Vadnais Heights, Minn., played in 35 games for the Sioux last season after transferring from Clarkson University, scoring a career-high two goals and four points.

Hanson, a native of St. Peter, Minn., played in all 36 games last year and achieved career highs in goals (three), assists (three) and points (six). A WCHA All-Academic Team selection, Hanson received UND's High Octane Award for high-quality and consistent performance throughout the season.

Motsko, a native of Fairbanks, Alaska, played in all 36 games for the second straight season and scored four goals and three assists for a career-high seven points. She was named to the WCHA All-Academic team.

UND opens the 2007-08 regular season this weekend at the Nike Bauer Women's Classic in Minneapolis. The Sioux face Boston University on Friday and Northeastern on Saturday.
